An Atom-sized celebration.

It's the Party of the Decade

In the pre-dawn of 16 July 1945, the path of world history was sent in an entirely different trajectory. When the skies over New Mexico lit up from the first man-made nuclear explosion, the Atomic Age had dawned.

For the next twenty years, an atomic future seemed so close. Soon, every aspect of life would be fired by the atom. Cars, homes, even appliances. Tomorrow had never seemed so bright.

But today, fortunes aren't so good for the humble atom. Today, it is shunned as something sinister and dirty. Society has let itself become frightened of the tiny atom, and the bright future we were promised in 1950 and 1960 has vanished. But not in Sirocco.

In July 2015 (Julin 69-Trinity 70), Sirocco held a celebration of the Atomic Age. Videos, music, and parties heralded the end of the 60s and the beginning of the 70s, the current decade which will run to 15 July 2025 (31 Julin 79).

Atomic Events

Concerto Atomica: 15 July (31 Julin 69), 11:00 PM

Havilland: Countdown to midnight with the best of Seeburg. Then, as the new year approaches, join the party with the 1812 Overture (right). It's a tradition in Sirocco to herald the new atomic year with nuclear tests, and with a new decade about to begin, there's extra reason to celebrate.

New Year Breakfast: 16 July (1 Trinity 70), 9:00 AM

Havilland: Welcome in the new year with a hearty breakfast in the capital. §5 entrance fee.

The Atomic Cafe: 16 July (1 Trinity 70), 10:00 PM, SBC-TV

The definitive documentary of the early Atomic Age, this classic 1982 film captures the public mood as the atom began to take over, and the threat of armageddon grew.
